Ingredients

  • 1 cup sprouted seeds (such as sunflower or alfalfa)
  • 1 cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup castor oil
  • 1/4 cup lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon essential oil (lavender, chamomile, or your preferred fragrance)
  • Optional: Natural colorants (clay, spirulina, or beetroot powder)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sprouts: Begin by sprouting your chosen seeds. Rinse them thoroughly, allow them to sprout for a few days, and then air-dry until completely dehydrated.
  2. Prep the Soap Mold: Line your soap mold with parchment paper, ensuring an easy release of the soap once it’s set.
  3. Measure and Combine Oils: In a heat-resistant mixing bowl, combine coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil, and castor oil. Gently heat the mixture until the oils are fully melted, creating a smooth, liquid base.
  4. Prepare the Lye Solution: In a separate container, carefully mix the lye with distilled water. Always add lye to water and not the other way around, stirring until fully dissolved. Allow the solution to cool to around 100-120°F (37-49°C).
  5. Combine Oils and Lye: Once both mixtures have reached a similar temperature, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils. Use an immersion blender to mix until a trace forms, indicating that the soap has thickened.
  6. Add Sprouts and Essential Oil: Incorporate the sprouted seeds into the soap mixture, stirring gently. Add your chosen essential oil for fragrance and continue to mix until well combined.
  7. Optional: Natural Colorants: If desired, add natural colorants like clay, spirulina, or beetroot powder to achieve the desired hue. Mix thoroughly until the color is evenly distributed.
  8. Pour into Mold: Pour the soap mixture into the prepared mold, ensuring an even distribution. Tap the mold on a flat surface to eliminate air bubbles.
  9. Curing Process: Cover the mold with a towel or parchment paper and let it sit in a cool, dry place for 4-6 weeks. This curing process allows the soap to harden and ensures a milder, longer-lasting bar.
  10. Unmold and Cut: Once cured, carefully unmold the soap and cut it into individual bars using a sharp knife. Allow the bars to continue curing for an additional week before using.
