Indulge in the wholesome goodness of a homemade treat with our Creamy Almond Milk recipe. This delightful alternative to traditional dairy milk not only offers a luscious texture but also packs a nutritional punch. Made from scratch, this almond milk recipe allows you to control the ingredients, ensuring a pure and satisfying beverage that can be enjoyed on its own, added to your morning coffee, or used in a variety of culinary creations.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 4 cups filtered water (for soaking)
  • 4 cups filtered water (for blending)
  • 2-3 tablespoons sweetener of your choice (optional, such as honey or maple syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Soak the Almonds: Begin by placing the raw almonds in a bowl and covering them with about 4 cups of filtered water. Allow the almonds to soak overnight or for at least 12 hours. This softens the almonds and makes them easier to blend.
  2. Drain and Rinse: After soaking, drain and rinse the almonds thoroughly under cool, running water. This helps remove any residue and enzyme inhibitors.
  3. Blend with Water: Place the soaked almonds in a blender and add 4 cups of fresh, filtered water. Blend on high speed for 2-3 minutes until you achieve a smooth, creamy consistency.
  4. Strain the Almond Milk: Position a fine mesh nut milk bag or cheesecloth over a large bowl, creating a makeshift filter. Pour the blended almond mixture through the bag or cheesecloth, allowing the liquid to separate from the almond meal.
  5. Extract the Liquid: Squeeze and press the almond meal to extract as much liquid as possible. Set aside the remaining almond meal for use in other recipes, such as baking or smoothies.
  6. Add Flavor (Optional): Enhance the flavor of your almond milk by adding sweeteners like honey or maple syrup, along with vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt. Adjust the sweetness and flavor to your liking.
  7. Store and Chill: Transfer the strained almond milk into glass bottles or jars with tight-fitting lids. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days, shaking well before each use.
  8. Enjoy Delight in the creamy, homemade almond milk on its own, in your morning coffee, or as a versatile ingredient in various recipes.
